          This article is about a compromise that is currently being worked on by the US, Russia, China, France, and Morocco about the violence in Syria. Background: The violence is Syria is part of the Arab Spring in which people have started the protest of government which controls most press and gives people basically no right and has leniency on honor crimes or killing.  There has been two previous compromises proposed by the US but both Russia and China has vetoed the compromises because they claimed that the compromise only adressed the Syrian Government.  This new compromise calls for the Syrian government to stop all violence, release all prisoners, and call off all military forces. It also includes that all government  human rights violations stop but doesn't require this of the rebels. And the last thing the compromise requires is the immediate resignation of President Assad. Chinas Ambassador tells people that they are still working on the compromise while Russians Deputy Foreign Minister supports Russia's ally Syria. The countries have not set another date to discuss the compromise.


           This connects to what we are learning in class because just like the countries in this article creating a compromise for Syria the state delegates made compromises at the Constitutional Convention. For example, countries in this article are trying to stop the violence in the Country of Syria just like the delegates were trying to stop the violence in the states like Shays' Rebellion. These events connect because in both cases the participantes are attempting to compromise to stop violence. These events also connect because in both the rebels try to shut down a portion of government. In the Syrian case the protesters are trying to get the President to resign while the rebels in Shays Rebellion tried and succeeded in shutting down the courts. THese connect because both groups attempted at shutting down a part of the government that they thought was unfair.

          This connects to my life because as a citizen of the US I have seen the Arab Spring on the news and herd it through friends. For example, I  have a friend that his parents immigrated to America and he has had family affected by the harsh government in Egypt and the rebellion. Another example, is that I have seen the Libya uprising on the news and how the people were protesting for Muammar Gaddafi's resignation and/or death. This has affected my life because I have seen it daily on the news and from information from my friend.

         My opinion on this subject is that the Countries should just approve the Compromise, so the unnecessary killing can stop. For instance, protesters get killed by the military and if a member of the military refuses to kill a protester then they are executed. This is just plainly moronic because all this would be preventable if the countries just sign the compromise and stop wasting time and not to mention lives. For instance, some of the countries say that the compromise doesn't adress the rebels. Then why dont they make the document amenable, so if the rebels continue the violence the document can be amended to say that the rebels need to stop te violence too. I dont this think this will solve all the problems but, it would help to stop some of the killing.

           This article is about a retired police man named Ray Lewis from Philadelphia that participates in the Occupy Movement... wait for it... in his full police uniform. He says he has joined the movement because he wants to stand out against greed and corruption. The current police force has asked him to not wear his outdated uniform on account that he is being disrespectful in doing so, but Lewis claims he is not breaking any laws by wearing his old uniform. Even the Fraternal Order of the Police has asked him to stop wearing is uniform. They are conducting an investigation which could end up with Lewis no having a FOP membership, no longer providing Lewis with life insurance or representation. Lewis was arrested while he was in his uniform for no obeying police order, but as long as he doesn't get arrested in the next six months he will not be charged. "I have never tried to influence anybody with any false authority," he said. Lewis also traveled to the Comcast cable company head quarters along with petitioners that were fighting for Comcast to carry a news program donated to covering a Demonstration in Al-Jazeera.




       This connects to what we are studying in class because like Washington when he was rejected from the British army, Lewis is being pushed away from the Philadelphia police. For example, Washington being rejected from the British army relates to Lewis being pushed away from the FOP because Washington was pushed away only because he was not directly for britain, just like how Lewis is being pushed away just because he wears his old uniform. Another example of how they are alike is that washington went to go lead another participant in the war( Patriots) just like Lewis who sides with the Occupy protesters. In conclusion this man connects to George Washington and and when the General joined the Continental Army. 


           This connects to my life because every other day I along with many other people see protesters on the news being reprimanded by police. A lot of the time some people are being violate and they do need to be handled, but also some people that are being perfectly peaceful are driven out of the place they are protesting. Of course the police are right to drive people off private property but not public. This also connects to me because I have seen the Occupy San Francisco and police are required to be there and people do get arrested.


            My opinion on this topic is that the current police shouldn't focus on people wearing old uniforms but the bank robbers, murders and robbers of the world. For example, in the time it will take the police to get this man to stop wearing his uniform a child could be kidnaped and long gone by the time they settled something as frivolous as a uniform ordeal. So if people have terrible things happen to them every day then then why not try and prevent them rather than waste it on something so unimportant ? Some people claim he could order people around with false authority, but as he stated he wasn't ordering people and that he was just protesting peacefully as he has the right to according to the Bill of Rights.

Topic Article Adresses: Government 

        

        This article talks about how Oakland police officer, John Hargraves, has had a ruling issued against him in a case involving the Occupy Oakland  Protest. It is said that Officer John Hargraves delibratly covered his name plate while working the Occupy Protest. He is said to have done this because previously the name and the adress of an officer were released by a protester demanding that the officiers house be broken down. Another Officier has a ruling against him too because he failed to report this crime. The judge has not yet decided what the fate of the officiers are.

        This connects to what we are studying in class because it is like less deadly and more modern version of The Boston Massacre. For example, in the British Soldiers directly disobeyed orders and fired at the colonist in self defense because rocks and ice were being thrown at then. Like the British soldiers, John Hargraves was disobeying orders but was protecting his home, his family. Another example of the connection, is that like the colonist did, the Occupy protesters were protesting government. In summary, John Hargraves' crime was an accidental recreation of The Boston Massacre.

     
       This connects to my life as a citizen because I witnessed the Occupy Oceanside protest. I saw that the protest could get out of hand a times but not nearly as much as this one did. This also connects to my life as a citizen because two of my uncles are police officers. Now if they covered up there name plates than they would defiantly be fired.

     
       My opinion of the officers actions are that he acted wrongfully in covering up his name because if he felt his family was in danger that he should of acted more maturely. For example, he could of went to his commanding officers and told him he was concerned for his families safety. If he did this than his job might not be on the line. And also if he is a police officer then shouldn't he expect to be in danger?  For instance, when you become a police officer you are going into the line of fire. If he thought he was going to be safe in this job then he was wrong to choose this profession

Government or Crime and Punishment

                  In this article a 20 year-old man pleaded guilty to stealing peoples boats, planes, and cars for over 2 years. He told the judge that he had been abused as a child but the judge took no mercy in sentencing him to over 7 years. He had a long record of stealing food because his mother allegedly his mother deprived him of food. HIs record also includes stealing sunglasses and other things.  He said when he goes to prison he will be focusing on studying to get into college.


               This connects to what we are studying because this is modern crime and punishment. Back in the time of the colonies people also stole things like food but the punishments were quite different. People that stole in the colonies were subject to whipping, being jailed in harsh environments and being branded. In our time if you commit a crime you can go to jail but people can't be subject to things like whipping, public humiliation, or being stretched. This are two thing are similar because they are the same crimes but, they are different because they have different punishments.

             
              This connects to my life as a citizen because everyday people convicted of crimes and my was once on a jury deciding someones fate. People today are welcome to view trials and prosecutions. This relates to my life personally because when I become a legal adult I have a duty as a citizen to go to jury duty so people have a fair trial. Every one that is a citizen has to go to duty if called. THis insures that the government is fair likely unlike the colonies government.


               My opinion on this topic is that the young man should have gotten jail time because he did something illegal and their should be consequences. For example if they let him out in, lets say 1 years, then he would have done it again, likely. He would likely continue to do this because if he didn't get punished severely this time they who's to say he would the next. On the contrary I do think cruel and unusual punishment is unacceptable. I aslo believe that execution is part of cruel and usual punishment because if you think about it death could be easier than going crazy in jail.

                The article that I choose for this pproject deals with the rising prices of food. On average a Thaksgiving meal for 10 will cost $5.73 more thatn last year. Also a turkey with the trimmings will cost 13%percent more than last year. Most hoilday foods are going up in price this year such as the turkey with has gone up by $4. But to give citizens a break grociers are disconting key ingredients to the traditional Thanksgiving meal. John anderson senior economist for the Farmbuero said,
"Given what is going on in the economy, higher prices on anything are not welcome,(But) it does not have the same impact as food prices in other parts of the world do. We are fortunate in that sense."

                This connect to what we are studying in class because the first English colony went through a similar problem but on a quite larger scale. Jamestown could not get substantial food at all because their link to the Indians (pocahontas) was gone and the Indians refused to trade with them after that . Like the people of Jamestown, people today have to pay a higher price toget a meal. For the people of Jamestown the price was eating other things like dogs, rates, and even other human bodies. For us the price is that we have to pay more more money. Even through we have to pay more to get food we should be thankful that we even have access to a good meal.

               This connects to my life as a citizen because we are trying to do a more traditional Thanksgiving dinner his year. So it is pretty disappointing that we have to pay eve more to get a good quality thanksgiving meal. It also connects to my life because my family always gets a organic turkey and those are more expensive than normal turkeys. So we might even have to pay more for our turkey.

            I understand that people had of raise the price on the food because it is kind of hard to not raise the prices in this bad economy and make a profit. For example, without raising the price companies would go out of business because they would be selling the food for less money than it takes to produce them. This would result in the closing of businesses because the ywould be losing money rather than making money.

Senator Worried About European Financial Problems

             This article is about the concern of Sen. Richard Shelby about Europe's Financial situation. HE says that if Greece defaults in its debt then it could put the US of A in another recession. HE says that we are connected with the European economy no matter what. HE says whatever happens their effects us. He also says that's Greece is just the tip of the iceberg. He says that Europe's instability is going to effect us in some way.

         This connects to what we are studying because the senator is part of the senate which is part of the legislative branch. The senators job is to analyze the economy and create laws that will benefit the economy. This senator is looking into the future so he can pass laws based on what will happen. The senator is trying to explain how the European economy is going to effect ours. The other senators must agree to pass a law.

           This effects my life because the economy effects every ones life practically. My mom also owns two private business and clients often leave because of the economy. This effects the income too and the amount of privileges we can afford.This effects young people like me because the school cant afford a lot of supplies for the students. Also this effected me because recently my dad quit his job for another job that was hard to find because of the economy.

            I believe that the senators should focus on our own economy instead of focusing on other countries. For example, Our economy is very bad right now and the government is focusing on other countries like Greece and Libya. This mean that the government is ashamed of our economy and is trying to avoid the problem by trying to fix other problems. But OUR economy is most important to US at the moment. Even though is sounds selfish it is true. We need to fix our problems before becoming a hero.


       

Women carrying guns in SC encourged

                   This article is about a South Carolina sheriff that suggested that women living in South Carolina carry a .45  caliber gun. He urges them to keep it concealed when they are out in public. He displayed a Fannie pack women could conceal a gun in while jogging. He said that the weapon wouldn't have to be accurate but able to hit a target from a fairly close distance. He said that the gun would offer more protection that pepper spray. He also said that walking in groups would be ideal. He discussed this after announcing the arrest of a suspected raper. The 46 year old arrested was charged Monday.

                This connects to what we are studying in history because this amendment allowing these women carry gun is the 2nd amendment which is part of the Bill of Rights. This amendment says that people are allowed to carry fire arms. These women have the right to carry guns with a permit because of the bill of rights. They can carry these guns so they can protect themselves. These women can carry guns because of the Bill of Rights.
   
              This connects to my life because my family including my parents were born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. But more importantly my grandfather owns registered guns. He uses these for hunting and he uses one for protection because he and my grandmother travel across the country a lot. He had to go through a gun safety class to get his permit to carry it, but only a few passed. It is because of the second amendment that my grandfather can carry a gun.

              My opinion on this subject is that the women should carry guns to protect themselves. But they should have to go through intensive safety and awareness classes so, that the people around them don't get hurt unintentulally. That guns shouldn't have to be allowed to protect people. But sadly now a days people can only feel safe if their carrying a weapon. I also think that it would also keep people safe if the government took away all weapons that way people cant hurt each other under any circumstances. That way no one can be harmed physical by weapons and evil could be erased mostly.
